Let it Shine:

The Story of the Keene Pumpkin Festival (2022)

Director - Editor

Feature length documentary selected for the 2022 Monadnock International Film Festival.

Gavin set out to make his first full length movie with 1 camera and little skill. He found inspiration in this amazing story set in his hometown, and 2 years later, completed the film.

“From 1991 to 2014, the small city of Keene, NH was home to the world-famous Keene Pumpkin Festival.  With over 9 Guinness World Records for most lit jack-o-lanterns in one place, and 50,000 to 80,000 people in attendance every year, the Pumpkin Fest made national attention every October. Every year, the Keene community would come together in attempt to break another world record, and the results were often magical. In 2014 the festival was shut down indefinitely after nearby rioting from out of control college students.”

In 2023, after the release of this film, the festival was revived by a new board of directors, and has continued since.
